Circularity isn’t just about keeping junk out of landfills. It’s a new paradigm of human consumption and a fascinating, more efficient, and more compassionate economic model.
Currently, we define a circular product as one in which all or part of the product is made of recyclable or biodegradable materials and / or the brand is registered with a recycling program (e.g. terracycle).
This helps to keep product-associated waste out of landfills, but more importantly, circular products set the stage for a dramatic shift in the global economy: to move away from extraction and towards re-use of [waste] materials we already have ready access to.
The elimination of mining and other extraction processes would have far and deep-reaching positive environmental impacts. And guess what? We have already taken enough from our planet. We just need to get creative about how we collect and reuse it.
